Yellow, peach, black and gold are the primary colors of this barrette which is actually a piece of wearable art. The barrette is made from a dried gourd. It's great to wear either in your hair or on a hat or handbag. It is also a nice, inexpensive gourd art gift, and comes in its own gift box. This is my own design and is truly one-of-a-kind. It is also unique. How many times do you see jewelry made from dried gourds?
I created the barrette from a piece of dried gourd, sanding the piece until it reflected the form I wanted. I hand painted the yellow fin grouper on the top of the piece using dimensional inks and opaque, permanent acrylic markers. Swarovski "gems" add extra sparkle to the barrette. The top background is bright metallic gold acrylic paint, and the back side has been left natural. I glued a 80mm, French-made, automatic, clip barrette blank onto the gourd using E6000 Industrial Adhesive. Then I coated the entire piece, both top and bottom, with a protective lacquer. The piece is signed. The barrette measures 1-3/4" wide and 4" long. It is lightweight, easy to wear, and very pretty.
NOTE: Gourds by nature have blemishes, bumps, and other flaws. Any of these are simply part of the art host. Since the gourd piece is thin, this barrette is fragile and should be handled gently. I am proud to use gourds from Wuertz Gourd Farm, a family-owned, local farm in Casa Grande, AZ.
This piece comes with its own gift box tied with fabric ribbon.

Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
No. My gourd art is intended for inside use only. The art will not hold up to weather and is not created to do so.
No. Unless I specifically state that the piece has been waterproofed, my gourd art should not be exposed to liquids including water. However, non-leaking containers for water--such as slender glass vases, etc.,--can be placed into the bowl or vase if you wish to use the piece for holding fresh flower bouquets. Just be careful to make sure there is no spillage.
No. Gourds are natural elements that will have bumps, dings, and blemishes. These are simply a part of the gourd itself.
I am a one person operation. I cannot and do not want to mass produce. I prefer NOT to become involved in wholesale.
Almost all of my art comes gift boxed and tied with a fabric ribbon. If you want the order gift wrapped, please convo me to discuss. I can also include a customized gift enclosure card. Please make sure to let me know in the "message" portion of your order if you wish to send as a gift and provide the name and address of the recipient. I try to include a copy of your receipt with each order. If the item is a gift, I will withhold the receipt unless you direct me otherwise.
I send a set of "care instructions" with all of my gourd art. Gourd art should be cared for in the same manner you would care for fine wood. Simply dust gently with a dry cloth. Keep the piece out of prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to ensure the colors do not fade. Keep the piece out of water.
